Latchmere Rec is wonderfully situated in the heart of our community. A green space of almost nine acres give to the community by Lord Dysart in 1904 for the purpose of recreation. In November 2017, when FoLaR was formed, the Rec comprised several football pitches, some extremely neglected toilets, a container, some beautiful trees and it generally didn't look cared for.

In Autumn 2017, a group of local residents got together with the aim of working with the community to improve the Rec. We wanted to make this green space a resource for all; a place you might walk to, spend time in, have coffee, meet people and chat, get some exercise, enjoy nature, trees, flowers, birds and the bees and learn about them.

We are very aware that we are not the first to try to improve the Rec. We have learnt about the efforts of those who have tried to make improvements in the past and are grateful for their advice and sharing of their experiences. We work closely with the Royal Borough of Kingston Green Spaces Dept who have been very supportive of our efforts and we are very grateful to them. It is a continuing delight to experience the warmth and enthusiasm of local people to our venture and to see just how many are involved in different ways. It is through your efforts that the Rec will achieve its' full potential!

Our Vision

For Latchmere Recreation Ground to embody the community cohesion and spirit of North Kingston. For it will be known as an attractive, well-managed and valued neighbourhood green space that has something for everyone, from open fields for general recreation to areas to help increase biodiversity and for quiet reflection. We hope that in the future, a new pavilion will offer better facilities for sport, recreation and the community and complete the transformation of what was purely a functional recreation ground into an attractive local park, welcoming all.
